Dairy Creek Golf Course, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in San Luis Obispo, California.
Dairy Creek golf course first opened for play in 1997. The par-71 course was designed by John Harbottle (Stevinson Ranch, Genoa Lakes)
Dairy Creek offers a "links style" golf experience nestled in the El Chorro Valley. This "player's course" is characterized by significant elevation changes, rolling hills, forced carries and rocky arroyos.
The Bermuda fairways are tight and the gently undulating Bent Grass greens will put the steadiest stroke to the test. The course includes many water hazards and bunkers. The par 71 course rises and falls 300 feet twice, offering enchanting views of the surrounding El Chorro Valley. Dairy Creek is considered one of the most challenging courses in the area. Most of the greens are large with undulation and some are tiered. There are no fairway sand bunkers but some small bunkers are located around the greens. Wind in a factor most afternoons.
Par for Dairy Creek Golf Course is 71. From the back tees the course plays to 6548 yards for a course rating of 72 and a slope rating of 127. From the forward tees the course measures 4965 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 14, a par-5 that plays to 549 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 8, a par-3 that plays to 135 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 2, a 427 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 16, a 310 yard par-4.
The course sits amongst rolling hills below majestic Hollister Peak. Pennington Creek meanders through the front nine and Dairy Creek through the back. The Audobon Cooperative Sanctuary course environmentally sensitive mandate and operates in harmony with it's natural surroundings. Birds of prey, wild turkeys, deer and other wild life abound.
Dairy Creek has an exceptional practice facility including the areas best driving range. There is also a putting green and a "short game" practice area.
Dairy Creek is the closest public golf course to San Luis Obispo. It is located 5.5 miles west of the city off highway CA 1 directly across from Cuesta College.

Due to the California Drought, Dairy Creek only waters the Tee Boxes and the Greens. Thus, the Fairways are rock hard and the fairways on the Back Nine have several holes in them. When I last played there I lost four or five balls due to the number of holes on the back nine fairways.

Price too high for punched greens and on a weekday.

I've always enjoyed the width of the fairways and the sizes of the greens. There are also only two water-holes. With the current California Drought the fairways are also very hard and, therefore, long drives are very common.

Side hill lies are the norm. Beautiful setting

Wonderful course and quite challenging. Love the fact there are no houses and lots of wildlife-wonderful ambiance.

This is a great risk/reward links-style course with forced carries over arroyos, environmentally sensitive hazards, and water. It has lots of elevation changes and huge tiered greens. Essentially every hole is interesting and the course requires a variety of shots. It can be scored on, but can also give you trouble if you are not careful. I play it often. My sense is that it plays longer than it measures (or maybe I'm just not as long as I used to be) and the different tees change the character and difficulty a lot. There is often a strong afternoon prevailing wind that, how shall we say it, adds to the interest.

Proshop staff was great. Food service facility's were WAY over priced. Conditions of coarse were the best I've seen ever.

Best condition in a long while. Tough to find a flat lie, great links golf on the central coast.

My index is 18.4 and I would like to play this course again but ONLY if I had a tee time before 8:30 or so. The fairways are very fast and so are the greens but one thing stands out, the winds blow very hard after about 1:00 PM and the back 9 is especially difficult playing into the wind.

Birdies are to be had but you better be on the correct level of the green or you can expect alot of 3 putts. A few blind shots but mostly a fair test.

Pick tees carefully. With the elevation changes, uneven lies, etc., the course plays harder than the distances would indicate.

One of the better courses in the area. 4 tees for variety, challenging at golds, fair at blue, easy at white. County card card holders receive discounted rates. Regular rates are $38 weekday and $47 weekend with another $16 per rider for a cart. Local tip - always line up your tee shot to the half (or third) part of the fairway that the cart path is located on and your day will be much better.

I play this course about once per week. The staff are wonderful, tee times are easy to get, and the course is usually in good shape. Handles the rain very well.

I have played this course several times and find it to be quite challenging. The only thing I don't like about it is the winds that come up EVERY afternoon.

Extensive elevation changes. Environmental areas cross and parallel fairways. Quite windy in the afternoons. Don't walk if you can't handle hills.

Recent rains have allowed fairways to recover. Greens are super fast.
